Parco dell’Etna

Park

The Etna Park extends on the eastern side of Sicily, embracing the entire volcanic complex of Mount Etna, the highest active volcano in Europe. Characterized by an extraordinary variety of landscapes, the park alternates lush forests, extinct craters, recent lava flows, and fertile agricultural lands cultivated with vineyards, pistachio orchards, and fruit trees. The altimetric excursion - from a few hundred meters to over 3,300 m - determines a great biodiversity, with environments ranging from Mediterranean scrubland to beech forests, up to high-altitude volcanic deserts. In addition to its natural richness, the Park is an important place for geological and scientific observation. It offers hiking trails, shelters, and unique viewpoints, and is frequented by trekking enthusiasts, photographers, cavers, and ski mountaineers. It is also a cultural and identity symbol for eastern Sicily, with small Etna villages that preserve traditions, popular festivals, and typical products linked to the mountain.
