Information
Name: Chiesa della Natività di Maria - Matrice Nuova
Type: Community and Government
Classification: Church
The Church of the Nativity of Mary, known as the Matrice Nuova, is Castelbuono's main religious building. Built between the 17th and 18th centuries to meet the needs of a growing population, it was rebuilt in neoclassical style after severe damage in the 1819 earthquake. The interior, divided into three naves, preserves a rich artistic heritage, including a 15th-century wooden cross, a precious triptych from the Antonelli school, decorative stuccoes, and numerous works by Sicilian artists, testifying to the church's historical, artistic, and religious significance.
