The Satyr Museum, housed in the historic deconsecrated church of Sant'Egidio in Mazara del Vallo, houses the famous Dancing Satyr, a precious bronze statue dating back to the late 4th century BC. The statue was recovered from the Strait of Sicily by the Mazara del Vallo fishing vessel Capitan Ciccio, in two stages, between 1997 and 1998. After a major restoration, the Satyr returned to Mazara del Vallo in 2005. The museum also houses other archaeological finds recovered from the waters of the Strait of Sicily, including amphorae, bronze objects, and ancient cannons.
