Museo del mare

The Museum of the Sea and Fishing in Catania, located in the seaside village of Ognina, illustrates the city's deep connection to the sea through the history of fishing and local maritime traditions. Opened in 2000 thanks to the initiative of Ognina's fishermen, the museum preserves ancient fishing tools and equipment, nautical utensils, and archaeological artifacts, including Roman and Greco-Italic amphorae. The collection thus offers a testament to Catania's maritime culture and the importance of the sea in the life and history of the community.
