Information
Name: Museo della memoria - Rete Museale Belicina
Type: Museums
Classification: Museum type: specialized, Ownership: municipal
The Museum of Memory of the Belicina Museum Network is a space dedicated to the historical and collective reconstruction of the events surrounding the 1968 earthquake in the Belìce Valley. Housed in the former Mother Church of Santa Margherita di Belìce, the museum transforms a symbolic site into a reflection on the fragility and resilience of the affected communities.
Through photographs, period documents, testimonies, and audiovisual materials, the exhibition takes visitors on a journey between the "before" and "after" the earthquake, restoring the memory of the destroyed villages and the long process of rebirth. The museum experience invites us to consider memory not only as a reminder of the past, but as a tool for understanding the present and building awareness of the region's future.
