Information
Name: Biblioteca Comunale
Type: Community and Government
Classification: Library
Year of foundation: 1977
The Municipal Library was established in 1977 by resolution of the City Council and began with an initial collection of 44 volumes. Since 1980, it has been housed in the former Convent of San Francesco d'Assisi, a historic building that enhances its cultural and identity-building role.
It houses a remarkable collection of books, including the historic Biblioteca Cappucinorum (16th–19th centuries) and a section dedicated to the Risorgimento, enriched by approximately 600 volumes donated by Professor Francesco Brancato and subsequent purchases by the municipal administration.
Over time, the bibliographic collection has grown to approximately 17,500 volumes, organized into various sections: literature for the Italian Risorgimento, the Capuchin collection, a children's area, a newspaper library, a video library, and a discotheque, as well as spaces dedicated to conferences and screenings.
The library's activities are now entirely computerized, supporting the consultation and management of its documentary heritage.
