The Taormina Film Fest 2025, now in its 71st edition, took place from June 10th to 14th between the majestic Ancient Theatre and the modern Palazzo dei Congressi. Artistic director Tiziana Rocca energetically relaunched an international program, exploring stories that combine auteur cinema with powerful popular emotions.
At the heart of the festival was an International Feature Film Competition, flanked by Out of Competition and Special Screenings sections: world premieres, documentaries, shorts, and restored cult films enlivened the evenings with screenings and discussions. Among the most anticipated moments was a series of events at the Ancient Theatre—from open-air cinema to discussions with international directors and actors—against a natural backdrop that made each screening a unique experience.
The jury, chaired by Da'Vine Joy Randolph and composed of film and production personalities, selected and awarded works capable of addressing contemporary themes with innovative language. In parallel, masterclasses, meetings, and workshops engaged young creatives, students, and enthusiasts, cementing the festival as a cultural laboratory.
The presence of stars such as Martin Scorsese (who received a lifetime achievement award), Michael Douglas, Catherine Deneuve, Monica Bellucci, and Helen Hunt gave the festival a prestigious and media-focused dimension, while the restoration and 25th anniversary celebration of "Malèna" paid tribute to the history of Italian cinema.
Special evenings enlivened the center of Taormina with musical events, glamorous moments on the red carpet, and special activities in the city's most evocative venues and venues. The festival thus celebrated cinema's ability to unite art, passion, and beauty in an unparalleled Mediterranean setting.
