The Orestiadi of Gibellina is an exceptional international festival held every summer in Sicily, born in the early 1980s from the vision of Mayor Ludovico Corrao to rebuild cultural identity after the Belice earthquake. Since 1981, the festival takes place in evocative sites such as Baglio Di Stefano and the Cretto of Burri, transforming these monumental locations into stages for theatre, music, visual arts, and site‑specific performances. Organized by the Orestiadi Foundation, the event is known for its bold artistic language blending theatre, dance, music and poetry, often presenting world or national premieres and original projects. Mimmo Paladino’s permanent “Mountain of Salt” installation forms a dramatic backdrop to many performances, while the monumental geometry of the Cretto hosts immersive artistic experiences. Each edition revolves around a thematic narrative, listening to the past and looking toward the future, under the artistic direction of Alfio Scuderi and with a strong emphasis on Mediterranean cultural dialogue. The Orestiadi attract an international audience, embodying cultural identity, contemporary art, and urban regeneration.
