It all begins with the blessing of the palms and the procession commemorating Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. Over the following days, the "hours" accompany the confraternities' journey toward the Cathedral, creating a sacred choreography of cloaks, hoods, symbols, and measured steps. Maundy Thursday marks a time of reflection, with the celebration of the Last Supper and the visit to the Sepulchres, where the churches are decorated with flowers and lights to welcome the faithful in prayer.
Good Friday represents the heart of the Week: an impressive and silent procession winds through the streets of the city. Thousands of hooded brothers accompany the statues of the Dead Christ and Our Lady of Sorrows, while funeral marches performed by bands further heighten the poignant atmosphere. The torchlight, the deep sounds, and the slow pace transform the city into a place suspended between grief and contemplation.
Even after Easter, the ritual continues. On Easter Monday, the "Donna Nuova" is celebrated, in which the Madonna, symbol of rebirth and hope, returns in procession among the people. Shortly thereafter, the "Spartenza" takes place, in which the Risen Christ and the Virgin Mary part ways, marking the end of the sacred season and the beginning of a new spiritual season.
