The project dedicated to the city's historic statues and fountains stems from a desire to protect and enhance the widespread artistic heritage that characterizes the center of Florence. The numerous sculptures and fountains that adorn squares and streets are not merely decorative elements, but living testimonies to the city's history and culture, the fruit of the work of great masters of the Renaissance and subsequent eras. Originally conceived for practical purposes, such as providing water for the population, these works have over time become true symbols of identity, visual and cultural landmarks for residents and visitors.
The initiative involves restoration and maintenance work aimed at preserving the beauty and integrity of materials such as marble and bronze, often subject to degradation caused by atmospheric agents and pollution. Particular attention is also paid to the plumbing and electrical systems, essential to ensuring the fountains' proper functioning. Among the most significant projects are the restoration of the fountains of the Rampe del Poggi, with their spectacular water features, and the restoration of important sculptural groups such as the equestrian statue of Cosimo I de' Medici, Hercules and Cacus, and Judith and Holofernes.
The overall goal is to restore to the city a harmonious, accessible, and safe monumental ensemble, capable of combining the preservation of the past with a modern and informed enjoyment of its extraordinary artistic heritage.
