The monumental complex of the Teatro della Pergola, located in Florence at Via della Pergola 12/32, is one of the oldest and most significant Italian-style theaters in Italy. Its architectural and historical significance earned it the title of National Monument in 1943.
Managed by the FondazioneTeatrodellaToscana (formerly known as the Fondazione Teatro della Pergola) since 2011, the theater has undergone significant renovations as a museum: not only does it host performances, but it also offers individual and group guided tours, including in English, and develops a rich educational program for schools in collaboration with local institutions.
The theater's museum tour includes historic and fascinating spaces, including the "Room of Names," which preserves antique 19th-century sound machines, and the "Vestibule of Extras," furnished with early 20th-century lighting equipment. The project aims to raise awareness not only of the building itself, but also of the evolution of theatrical art over the centuries and the city's often hidden urban fabric, inviting the public to discover lesser-known places rich in history and atmosphere.
Thanks to these initiatives, the Teatro della Pergola is not just a stage for performances, but a living place of memory and culture, open to the public in its many dimensions: architectural, scenographic, historical, and educational.
