PALAZZO COCCHI SERRISTORI

Firenze (Firenze), Toscana

Description

Palazzo Cocchi Serristori, located in Piazza Santa Croce in Florence, is an elegant building with medieval origins, constructed over 14th-century structures that once belonged to the Peruzzi family and subsequently remodeled by various noble families. Between the late 18th and early 19th centuries, it underwent a profound transformation commissioned by Maria Maddalena Cocchi, who redesigned the interior spaces around a dramatic monumental staircase, the heart of the architectural composition.
The restoration project focused on the refined frescoes decorating the ceilings of the ground floor and the piano nobile. On the ground floor, winged cherubs dancing among flowering vines and light drapes create a lively and playful atmosphere, testifying to the decorative quality and compositional balance of the entire building. On the upper floor, the vaults and walls feature mythological figures and deities: Eros flying with torches, Selene and Endymion immersed in a celestial scene, Venus and Mars, Jupiter and Juno, and finally the Three Graces, who complete the cycle with classical harmony.
The restoration aims to eliminate deposits and alterations, consolidate the painted surfaces, and restore the original luminosity of the colors, enhancing the extraordinary decorative richness of a palace that represents an important part of Florentine artistic and architectural history.
