Palazzo Sclafani is an important medieval building located near the Norman Palace, whose construction began in 1330 at the behest of Matteo Sclafani. Transformed into a hospital in the 15th century and later into barracks in the 19th century, the palace still retains traces of its long urban history. The Art Bonus project involved a delicate restoration of the façade overlooking Piazza della Vittoria. The work focused on cleaning and consolidating the stone surfaces, specifically removing mortar drips, performing air-abrasive treatment, brushing to remove loose debris, impregnating with ethyl silicate and fluoride resin, filling gaps with mortar, and repainting using sponging to harmonize the appearance of the ashlars.
The total cost of the project was €19,800.00, entirely covered by donations, which allowed for the completion of all the planned work. The fundraising campaign was successfully completed, and the implementation phase was completed within the scheduled timeframe.
Thanks to this maintenance and restoration project, the monumental façade has been cleaned and enhanced, contributing to the urban decor and the structure's visibility. Palazzo Sclafani now presents itself to the public in improved condition, with a well-preserved façade that is more accessible within the historical and architectural context of Palermo.
