Palazzo Belmonte Riso, an elegant 18th-century noble residence located along the monumental axis of Via Vittorio Emanuele in Palermo, is one of the city's most important examples of historic architecture. Built in 1784 and characterized by a fusion of Baroque and Neoclassical styles, the palace suffered a long period of abandonment during the 20th century, exacerbated by the bombings of World War II. In the 1990s, it underwent a complex restoration project that returned it to the city, transforming it into a museum.
Since 2005, it has housed the Regional Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art of Sicily, known as the Riso Museum, a hub for the promotion and enhancement of contemporary art. In addition to its permanent collections, the museum hosts temporary exhibitions and multidisciplinary projects, becoming a hub for local creativity and international art circles.
The Art Bonus project, currently underway, involves completing the technological systems essential to the facility's operation: air conditioning, smoke detection, and video surveillance. These systems are essential both for the conservation of the works housed there and for ensuring public safety. The total estimated cost is €126,580.50, with work also including specialized technical consultancy, extraordinary maintenance, and the safety of several highly valuable artistic installations.
With this project, Palazzo Riso consolidates its role as a contemporary cultural center within a historical setting of extraordinary prestige. The initiative aims to provide suitable spaces for exhibitions and educational activities, creating an ongoing dialogue between architectural heritage, artistic preservation, and cultural innovation.
