Teatri Riflessi is a traveling festival held annually, primarily in the Etna and Ionian regions of Sicily. The event aims to be a creative laboratory for contemporary performing arts, promoting emerging productions through an international competition for short performances, live performances lasting up to 15 minutes, spanning theater, dance, contemporary circus, and multidisciplinary performances.
The festival is structured around various activities: performances are hosted both in traditional theaters, such as the evocative open-air theater of Zafferana Etnea (with a capacity of over 2,000 seats), and in unconventional spaces, capable of redefining the way we experience the stage and engaging with the urban or natural context.
Each edition features initiatives related to education (such as free workshops with professional choreographers), the promotion of creativity, inclusion, and audience development, including those not usually attending. The prizes awarded to selected performances include fees ranging from €500 to €1,100, travel expenses, as well as awards such as "Best Short Film," "Best Drama," "Best Direction," and "Best Performer," which can reach up to €1,200. Special mentions are also awarded by the critics, youth, and audience juries, as well as prizes awarded through the network of cultural partners for residencies, tours, or further artistic opportunities.
The festival is supported by local cultural networks and foundations (such as the Intesa Sanpaolo Charity Fund), and aims to have a strong cultural, social, and economic impact on the local area, bringing diverse communities closer to the contemporary language of live performance.
