The "F. Stanganelli" Municipal Library of Comiso, established in 1906, today houses approximately 55,000 volumes, including a valuable collection of approximately 1,700 original texts from the abolished religious corporations. These are complemented by approximately 1,500 music recordings of various genres, which enrich the library's cultural offerings. Since 1995, the library has been part of the Ragusa Provincial Library System, with most of its volumes regularly catalogued and accessible through the integrated system.
Two major projects supported by the Art Bonus for a total of €30,000 are currently underway: the first, worth €20,000, is dedicated to the centenary of the birth of Comiso writer Gesualdo Bufalino and includes theatrical performances, readings, writing workshops, thematic meetings, exhibitions, and publications aimed at promoting his work, especially among younger generations. The second, worth €10,000, aims to improve the library's services through the purchase of new publications, particularly children's fiction and nonfiction, as well as new furnishings to accommodate uncatalogued volumes, and management software to improve the lending system and the organization of users and collections.
Both projects are currently being implemented, with the fundraising campaign still open. The entire operation was last updated on December 5, 2019. These actions demonstrate the library's commitment to promoting local culture, promoting reading among young people, and modernizing services, while strengthening its connection with the local community.
