The school library at the "Cruillas" Comprehensive School in Palermo was created as an educational and cultural project with the aim of providing an inclusive and stimulating space for students, teachers, and the local community. With a total estimated cost of €8,000.00, the initiative aims to enrich and enhance the school's book and multimedia collections, transforming the library into a vibrant, participatory environment that fosters personal and collective growth.
The project aims to promote reading in all its forms, from traditional books to new digital resources, encouraging children and young people to discover the pleasure of storytelling and develop a lasting relationship with knowledge. At the same time, it aims to combat educational poverty by supporting inclusive practices and creating opportunities for cultural sharing open to all.
The planned activities are numerous and varied: animated and read-aloud readings, creative writing workshops, themed days, meetings with authors, bookcrossing initiatives, book exchanges and loans, the production of self-produced texts and art materials, and guided tours of local libraries and bookstores. All these experiences aim to develop critical and creative thinking, enhance imagination and emotion, and establish a collaborative network with the city's institutions, associations, and cultural organizations.
The financial investment will be used to purchase new volumes and multimedia materials, as well as print works produced by the students themselves. The library will thus become an open and dynamic laboratory, where books are not just objects to be read, but a starting point for new learning and social experiences.
In this way, the school strengthens its educational function, transforming the library into a true cultural and social hub for the benefit of the entire neighborhood.
