The work is an artistic bronze fountain created by Pietro Consagra, installed in the main square of Mazara del Vallo. It consists of a T-shaped reinforced concrete structure, upon which stand four bronze elements that spout water, with the horizontal line of the T standing out against the horizon of the sea: the effect is that of four "sailors" emerging from the water.
Over time, the fountain has suffered deterioration typical of exposed materials: calcareous encrustations, biological patinas, blocked jet nozzles, pump malfunctions, invisible deposits, and deterioration of the concrete and the reinforced element from atmospheric exposure.
The one-year scheduled maintenance project includes a package of interventions: biocide treatment every three months, silicate treatments every four months, periodic protective coatings, monthly filter cleaning, pump and probe operation checks, nozzle cleaning, pump bearing replacement, light diffuser cleaning, descaling, cement treatment, and routine maintenance of the water and lighting systems.
The requested amount is €24,570.00; there are no donations currently received, and the fundraising campaign is open.
The project goes beyond technical restoration; it also enhances a significant work of local contemporary art, a symbol for the community. Restoring the fountain to full functionality strengthens the bond with the artist Pietro Consagra, improves the urban decor, makes Piazza Mokarta even more attractive, and ensures that the work can continue to lend aesthetic and symbolic value to the seascape that the landscape offers.
