The Sicilian Symphony Orchestra Foundation, based in Palermo at the Teatro Politeama Garibaldi, is one of the island's most important cultural institutions. Founded in 1951 and subsequently transformed into a foundation in 2002, the institution has always played a leading role in the promotion of symphonic music, offering a high-quality artistic program ranging from classical tradition to contemporary influences.
Each year, the Orchestra presents a concert season featuring approximately thirty productions, complemented by special events, international tours, and summer performances in Sicily's most evocative locations, including Taormina, Segesta, and Monreale. In addition to its symphonic repertoire, the program also includes events for families and schools, with the aim of introducing younger generations to music. To support this mission, the Foundation has established the Children's Choir and the Sicilian Youth Orchestra, essential tools for cultural and educational growth.
The projects supported through Art Bonus focused on two main projects: the restoration of a prized violin from the Giovanni Battista Rogeri school, which brought an important historical instrument back to music, and support for the 2019/2020 symphony season, to ensure the quality and continuity of the artistic programming. The total estimated cost was over €1.2 million.
Although both projects are now closed, the Foundation's commitment remains constant: promoting musical culture in Sicily, nurturing young talent, preserving the instrumental heritage, and offering the public excellent artistic experiences.
