Per un teatro di comunità – formazione del pubblico e crescita culturale

Palermo (Palermo), Sicilia

Description

The "For a Community Theater" project, promoted by Teatro Libero Palermo Onlus, is an initiative aimed at audience education and cultural development through the performing arts, aimed at the diverse communities of the city of Palermo and the metropolitan area. The central idea is to make the theater not just a place of performance, but a cultural hub that fosters encounters, sharing, participation, social dialogue, and community engagement.
With the resources generated by donations, the project intends to launch a variety of virtuous paths: theater workshops for citizens of all ages; reading and storytelling activities; opportunities to explore social issues through the languages of the stage; and opportunities for social interaction that overcome socio-cultural, linguistic, and geographical barriers. The theater aims to become an educational space, a place of collective growth and empowerment for those less represented in traditional cultural experiences.
The project is also conceived as a tool to strengthen the relationship between spectators and theater, fostering a more informed, active, and engaged audience. We will strive to reach out to peripheral or less engaged communities, schools, and social groups with less access to culture, offering programs that are both educational and responsive to local needs.
The initiative is in the tradition of Teatro Libero, founded in 1968 by Beno Mazzone, which over the years has conducted research, theatrical experimentation, workshops, schools, and contemporary performances. The theater is currently located in the former loggia of the sixteenth-century church of Santa Maria dei Miracoli in Piazza Marina. The theater boasts a strong identity as an open space within the urban fabric: its activities transcend pure performance to become a cultural presence rooted in the community.
