The acropolis of Selinunte, one of the largest and most fascinating archaeological sites in Sicily, preserves monumental remains of the ancient Greek city, testimony to both the architectural power of the period and its complex history. The site is characterized by imposing temples, walls, sacred altars, and an archaeological heritage of exceptional importance, immersed in a landscape of extraordinary environmental value.
The Art Bonus project currently underway is aimed at the structural maintenance and enhancement of the acropolis area. Planned interventions include stabilizing the temple bases, consolidating the wall structures, improving the safety of visitor routes (through parapets, accessible signage, and paving), as well as visually enhancing the area with nighttime lighting, multilingual information panels, and digital systems for an immersive visitor experience.
The estimated budget for these interventions is €450,000.00, raised through Art Bonus contributions, public entities, and private sponsorships, with a work plan already structured. The goal is to preserve and make accessible one of the Mediterranean's most important archaeological heritage sites, increasing its cultural and tourist appeal by promoting learning environments and sustainable conservation.
The planned enhancement also includes local participation initiatives, visitor workshops, and guided tours, with particular attention to accessibility for all age groups. The measures adopted aim to preserve historical memory, revitalize the site as a cultural attraction, and engage the local community in a vision of participatory management, combining conservation and cultural innovation.
