Interventi conservativi e digitalizzazione – Archivio di Stato di Palermo

Palermo (Palermo), Sicilia

Description

The project focuses on enhancing the conservation and accessibility capabilities of the State Archives of Palermo, the heart of Sicily's documentary memory. Thanks to the funding, targeted restoration interventions will be carried out on the most delicate and deteriorated historical documents, along with the launch of a vast digitization project to make them accessible to the public and researchers, including digitally.
The main activities include cleaning and reconditioning paper supports, consolidating fragile papers, parchments, and bindings, and creating optimal environments for the physical preservation of documentary materials. At the same time, a dedicated digital platform for the archive will be developed, complete with accurate metadata and high-resolution images, enabling online consultation of historical documents while ensuring high standards of accessibility, security, and durability.
This project opens up significant prospects on the cultural, educational, and scientific fronts: on the one hand, it fosters the participatory use of documentary heritage by schools, scholars, and citizens; on the other, it ensures the physical protection of historical sources, resistant to direct manipulation or environmental degradation. The project contributes to the dissemination of knowledge, the promotion of historical research, and the promotion of more inclusive and modern access to archival heritage.
