Monumento ai Bersaglieri Caduti durante la Grande Guerra

Palermo (Palermo), Sicilia

Description

The project involves the restoration of the Monument to the Bersaglieri Fallen during the Great War, located at the Calatafimi Barracks in Palermo. The goal is to ensure the preservation and revitalization of a monument that commemorates the sacrifice of the Bersaglieri fallen in Albania during the world war, making it accessible and dignified again, in keeping with its historical and symbolic value for the local community and for Italy's cultural heritage.
The project involves several phases: erecting scaffolding around the monument, biocide treatment to eliminate deteriorating agents, disinfection, stopping corrosion on metal components, removing degraded plaster and consolidating the constituent mortars, cleaning the surfaces, reconfiguring the surface finishes, and filling any material gaps.
The total cost of the restoration is estimated at €26,400.00; at the time of the survey, no donations had yet been collected, but the campaign for donations through the Art Bonus mechanism is open.
This monument is not just a work of art, but a tangible sign of historical memory: it pays homage to the Bersaglieri forces who fought and lost their lives during the Great War, especially in Albania. Restoring it means preserving the memory of past generations, keeping alive the memory of the sacrifices made in defense of the territory, and improving the public space where this monument is located, strengthening the community's sense of identity and belonging.
The restoration will also contribute to enhancing the monument as an educational resource, a potential reference point for educational and commemorative initiatives, ensuring that the history it tells remains visible, respected, and shared.
