The Fountain of the Tritons in Piazza Giordano Bruno is a 19th-century fountain that represents an important historical and symbolic feature for the San Biagio neighborhood. It was built at the behest of the then mayor as a symbol of the neighborhood's redevelopment, drawing excess water from a nearby spring known as the Fountain of the Tritons. The fountain consists of a central basin surmounted by four sculpted serpent-shaped supports, ornamental elements that make it particularly evocative.
During the night between late 2023 and early 2024, the fountain was damaged: the basin was split in two, the sculpted supports were destroyed, and graffiti appeared on the edges of the basin. These acts have severely compromised the aesthetic and structural integrity of the structure.
The restoration project aims to restore the fountain by fully restoring the basin, restoring the sculpted supports that can still be recovered, and reactivating the water system that once fed it. Surface cleaning will be carried out, graffiti and encrustations will be removed, decorative elements will be consolidated, missing parts will be replaced or reconstructed in a manner compatible with the original, and the surfaces will be protected to prevent future damage.
This project is not only technical but also has a strong social impact: returning the fountain to the neighborhood strengthens local identity, enhances public spaces, promotes urban heritage, and stimulates community participation. A well-done restoration will restore beauty to the urban landscape and become a source of pride for residents.
