Festa S.Lucia

On December 13, 2025, Syracuse (Siracusa) warmly honors its patron saint, St. Lucy. The day's highlight is a solemn pontifical Mass at 10:15 in the Cathedral, followed at 15:30 by a moving procession from Piazza Duomo to the Church of Santa Lucia al Sepolcro. Devotees known as “green-caps” carry the silver statue of Saint Lucia through the historic center, with hymns and prayers filling the streets. The statue remains at the church until December 20, the “Octave,” when it returns to the Cathedral. Key traditions include the opening of the statue’s niche, Transfer to the High Altar, processions, and the blessing and sharing of cuccìa, a traditional wheat dish.
