Holy Week in Caltanissetta 2025 took place from April 13th to 20th, transforming the historic center into a stage of emotional intensity and profound spirituality. It began on Palm Sunday with the evocative procession of Jesus of Nazareth, carried in a decorated boat, passing through the city streets in an atmosphere of meditation, culminating in a fireworks display that illuminated the night.

In the following days, the "Scinnenza" took shape, a sacred representation of the Passion, with episodes narrating the entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the betrayal, the flagellation, and the Deposition. These dramatic scenes, interpreted with pathos, enlivened the squares and alleyways, engaging the community and drawing spectators captivated by the intense and symbolic staging.

Maundy Thursday marked the most solemn moment with the procession of the Vare, monumental wooden and papier-mâché sculptures created between the 19th and 20th centuries. Their procession, accompanied by marching bands and illuminated by sleeping lights, wound its way through the ancient streets, finally gathering in a circle in Piazza Garibaldi in a highly evocative moment.

Good Friday brought an atmosphere of profound devotion with the worship of the "Black Christ," an ancient crucifix, carried by barefoot brothers amid mournful chants and penance. In this nocturnal ritual, amidst soft lighting and silence, the presence of the Real Maestranza and the Fogliamari lent solemnity and collective participation.

Easter Sunday brought a joyful awakening: the Resurrection procession, led by the Real Maestranza in white robes, passed through the city while the keys were symbolically handed over to the mayor. The white doves released into the sky sealed an atmosphere of rebirth and hope, cementing the bond between faith, culture, and community.
